FAQs

What is POD printing?
POD stands for Print On Demand. It is a process where products are printed as they are ordered. This saves businesses from having to stock inventory, especially if they don't know whether it will sell.
POD printing is more expensive than mass produced products simply because there is no savings for scale. On the up side is the fact that you can offer items/designs that can not be bought elsewhere and to niche markets.

What does DTG mean?
Here is a list of terms that you might read on POD sites:

DTG - Direct To Garment. Inks are applied directly to the garment, kind of like your home printer. The process is better than cheap transfers which crack, peel and fade easily, and screen printing that can only use limited colors.

Will these sites sell the products with my designs on them?
You must drive your own customers to your store by advertising. The site will only take orders, and fulfill them.

How do I get paid?
When your commission (profit after printing and other costs are taken out) reaches a certain threshold you will be sent a check or Paypal payment depending on the site.

Do I have to make my own designs?
All designs made by other people are subject to copyright, you can only use them with permission and most people will not give you that permission - even from clipart sites. Clipart is nearly always too small to use for this purpose anyway.
You can use your own photos or designs that you have made on your computer. Beware of trademark issues - you can't use anything from business advertising, movies etc. NO - logos, cartoon characters, movie lines, photos of Cocacola bottles etc. Companies will hit you with a huge lawsuit if they find you using their copyright and trademarked stuff.
